Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus was a Roman general and statesman, renowned for his pivotal role in Rome’s triumph over Carthage during the Second Punic War. Widely regarded as one of history’s greatest military commanders and strategists, his most significant achievement was the decisive defeat of Hannibal at the Battle of Zama in 202 BC. This historic victory in Africa earned him the epithet Africanus, signifying both his geographic association with the continent and his status as a conqueror of Africa.
The ancient Romans preferred not to use the designation ‘IV’ because those were the initials of the name of the Roman supreme god IVPITER. Titanio is a modern Italian watch brand and, out of respect, will not use the ‘IV’. Titanio watch faces are clearly legible and, if they have chronos, they indicate the hours, minutes and seconds.
Emperor Augustus had an obelisk brought over from Egypt. On the obelisk, a sphere was placed, whose shadow fell on a Roman square where bronze markings were installed in the paving, from which the time could be read. The “Horologium” is probably the largest sundial ever built. The movements of Titanio watches are also large and at least as reliable and accurate.
A popular piece of jewellery among wealthy Roman men was the signet ring. This piece of jewellery was used to seal letters. Roman bracelets were characterized in particular by the decoration of stones and glass. This is why Titanio pays a lot of attention to the design and quality of the watch strap.
Scipio’s campaign in Carthaginian Iberia reached its climax in the Battle of Ilipa in 206 BC, where he confronted Mago Barca, the brother of Hannibal. Despite being hailed as a hero by the Roman populace, largely due to his successes against Carthage, Scipio faced significant opposition, particularly from Cato the Elder.
The Colosseum was chosen as one of the new seven wonders of the world in 2007. A magical place that symbolizes the old and the new city of Rome. Not only are Titanio watches designed with passion and dedication; that also applies to the stylish tin mini Colosseum in which Titanio watches are packaged.
